Option 1:

Iveri Whitening
- This is the most effective option to whiten teeth. The procedure is offered at Glen Valley and is completed in one appointment. This is also the most convenient whitening option, since patients can whiten all at once rather than traditional at– home custom trays or whitening strips that can take up to 3 weeks. This is particularly beneficial to those who use staining products daily, such as, coffee, cigarettes or dark pop, since when whitening, for best result, no staining agents should be used or consumed at least 72 hours following the whitening process. The appointment itself is about 60 minutes and consists of prepping the teeth for the whitening and having the whitening light over the teeth for (3) fifteen minute cycles. Results vary, but typically teeth will whiten 5-9 shades.

Option 2:

Custom Trays for use at home
-  Custom trays are an effective way of whitening the teeth. Custom trays are a superior choice of whitening compared to the white strips that are purchased in the store. The custom trays cover all the teeth and form to the patients exact tooth shape. This allows for more uniform whitening. The bleach for the custom trays is a stronger formulation than what is used in store white strips; therefore, the process is faster and more effective to reach the desired shade. The custom trays that are made are used at home for a maximum of one hour a day and for best results should be worn consecutively over a one to two week period. No staining products should be consumed or used during the entire bleaching process, including at least 72 hours following the last day of whitening. If you would like to have custom trays, Glen Valley will schedule a 10– minute appointment to take impressions of your teeth which allow us to design the trays.  Another appointment will then be scheduled to deliver the trays and bleach tubes and to offer instructions on the use and care of the bleaching trays

Option 3:

Sheer White Strips-
This thin, flexible, modable material closely adapts to every tooth surface holding the whitening gel where it belongs - against the tooth surface. No leaking or washing out of gel and no slipping or sliding of the strip. This strip should be worn for 1-2 hours for only 5 days ! You can wear the strips overnight, unless you grind your teeth during the night. These strips are a great option for teenagers and those curious about trying whitening. The same as with all whitening options, no staining products should be used or consumed during whitening and 72 hours following the completion of the last strip.

Advantages of Dental Implants Over Dentures or a Bridge

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that the dentist places into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth.

Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth.

While high-tech in nature, dental implants are better than traditional bridgework, since implants do not involve the teeth next to the space for support.

Dental implants feel and look natural, so you may forget you ever lost a tooth. You know that your confidence about your teeth affects how you feel about yourself, both personally and professionally. Perhaps you hide your smile because of spaces from missing teeth. Maybe your dentures don't feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence, there is good news! Dental implants are teeth that can look and feel just like your own! With proper placement and diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants.

Every way you look at it, dental implants are a better solution to the problem of missing teeth.

  • Esthetic   Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth! Since dental implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany bridgework and dentures. No one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth.
  • Tooth-saving   Dental implants don't sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth like a bridge does because those teeth are not altered to support the implant. More of your own teeth are left alone which is a significant long-term benefit to your oral health!
  • Confidence   Dental implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence! They are secure and offer freedom from the irksome clicks and wobbles of dentures. They'll allow you to say goodbye to worries about misplaced dentures and messy pastes and glues.
  • Reliable   The success rate of dental implants is highly predictable. They are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

As you know, your own teeth require conscientious at-home oral care and regular dental visits. Dental implants are like your own teeth and will require the same care. In order to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, brushing and flossing still apply!

From "silver" to "white" (hover over picture to see the difference)

white fillingsIf you open your mouth you may be able to see dark fillings. These fillings are called amalgams, commonly referred to as silver fillings. The amalgam was more of a traditional way to fill the space left from drilling out the decay. It was placed in the mouth to create a mechanical fit in the space left where the cavity once was. This amalgam is a metal alloy and its metal properties can cause it to expand and contract. Over time, this expansion can cause cracking of the surrounding enamel weakening the natural tooth structure that can result in parts of the tooth breaking. (acting similar to a wedge). The contraction of the metal can cause the margins of the filling to create tiny gaps that cause leakage around the filling. These gaps, though tiny, allow bacteria and contaminates to slip in around the filling and over time present a high potential for decay on the enamel next to the filling.

At Glen Valley Dentistry when a tooth begins to show signs of breakdown as described above, we replace the filling material with a composite material that is tooth colored. This tooth colored material is a great alternative to the metal because it actually bonds to the space from where the filling was cleaned out. This makes the tooth stronger and reduces the opportunity for the perimeter of the filling to leak.

We also recommend replacing the metal fillings before the above mentioned conditions occur to save as much of the original tooth structure as possible.

We offer free consultations- if you would like us to evaluate your older metal "silver" fillings you can call or email our office today to schedule a free consultation, we would love to help you.
